What is the DJI Matrice 30
The Matrice 30 series — including M30 and M30T — is a compact, enterprise‑grade drone from DJI, designed for professional missions (inspection, public safety, surveillance, etc.), but built to be portable and backpack‑ready, unlike larger drones.
It combines multiple high‑performance sensors (wide, zoom, and — on M30T — thermal) plus a laser rangefinder into a single gimbal module.
Cameras & Sensors
-
Wide‑angle camera: 12 MP, 1/2″ CMOS sensor — for broad field-of-view aerial imagery / video (e.g. 4K video).
-
Telephoto / Zoom camera: 48 MP, 1/2″ CMOS sensor, with 5×–16× optical zoom + up to 200× hybrid/digital zoom — good for detailed inspections even from a distance.
-
Laser Rangefinder + FPV camera: For measuring distances / coordinates of objects from air and for situational awareness.
-
Thermal camera (M30T only): The “T” model adds a thermal imaging sensor — useful for inspections (heat loss, hot spots), search & rescue, building assessment, and more.
Because of this combination, the M30 can handle a wide variety of tasks — from visual inspections to thermal surveying — depending on the model and mission.

Flight Performance, Build & Reliability
-
Flight time: up to ~41 minutes per battery.
-
Takeoff / total weight: around 3.7 kg (drone alone folded / unfolded), making it significantly lighter and more portable than larger enterprise drones.
-
Transmission & control: Uses OcuSync 3 Enterprise — robust live‑feed and remote‑control link, even over longer distances. Supports optional LTE‑dongle for improved connectivity in complex environments.
-
Environment resilience: Rated IP55 — able to operate in tough conditions (rain, dust, wind).
-
Sensors & safety: Omnidirectional sensors for obstacle detection, redundant safety systems, and “arm‑lock & gimbal locking” for secure transport and reliable deployment.
-
Portable & fast deployment: Folding‑arm design (like smaller DJI models) — fits in a backpack, easy to transport and deploy quickly on site.
